Instructions
How to Make Smash Burgers
Mix the ground beef with the Big Dog Spices Loaded Burger seasoning until well combined. Hand mixing is best, as it will give you more control over how the mixture comes together.
Roll ground beef and seasoning mixture into 4 meatballs (150g each)
Preheat a flat-top griddle or heavy skillet over medium-high heat. The pan should be hot enough that a drop of water will sizzle and evaporate. Melt the butter on the griddle/skillet.
Place the meatballs onto the grill and, using a heavy press, smash them down until thin and flat. If you don’t have a heavy metal press, you can use a flat-bottomed pot or skillet.
Cook for about 4 minutes (or until golden brown) on one side before flipping over.
Add a slice of cheese on each patty during the last few minutes of cooking and cover with a pan lid to help melt the cheese.
Remove patties from the skillet, and let them rest for a few minutes before assembling burgers.
How to Make Big Dog Spices Special Sauce
Add all the special sauce ingredients to a mixing bowl and mix thoroughly with a spoon or hand until well combined.
Assemble Smash Burger
Place each patty on a toasted burger bun and top with Big Dog Spices Special Sauce.
Add desired toppings, such as pickles, red onion, lettuce and sliced tomato.
Smash Burgers are a style of burger that is cooked on a flat-top griddle or cast iron skillet. The burgers are named after how they’re prepared — the beef patty is smashed down with a heavy press while it cooks.
Smashing the patty flat and thin helps the juices and flavours meld together, making for a delicious finished burger. The patty must also be cooked quickly, forming a nice crispy exterior that is satisfying with every bite.
Not only that but adding a bit of ground pork to your beef patties will make your burgers more juicy, complete with delicious fat chunks that add an extra layer of flavour.
I love cooking BBQ dishes that feed the whole family. Some of my favourites include burgers, pulled pork, chicken wings and ribeye. I like to experiment with different cuts of meat, varying levels of smokiness, and delicious home-made sauces.
